BMW 1 Series Coupe

Details of BMW's latest addition have been officially released. The new 1 Series Coupe - which will be available as both a 128i and a 135i when it goes on sale in North America - is a modern interpretation of the classic 2002, with a front-engine and rear-drive configuration.

As expected, the new car looks a lot like a 1 Series hatch; the biggest difference being the newly created rear end. An integrated spoiler has been fitted atop the trunklid on the 128i and includes an additional lip spoiler on the 135i (part of the standard 'M Aerodynamic Kit'). L-shaped taillights - replete with a set of LED horizontal lights - also adorn the rear.

But aside from a resculpted rear end, the new coupe also features BMW's characteristic "Hofmeister kink" rear side window treatment, the long hood of its 3-door sibling, and wheels that remain pushed out to the corners; accentuating its sporty demeanor.

The new Coupe will make its first public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
